A Day Our Nation Will Never Forget

By Sadhana Rajamoorthi

On September 11th, our nation was struck severely, leaving us with memories of a peaceful past and fears of an uncertain future. The terrifying scenes on the television left us all with tears, feelings of sorrow, and the sounds and sights, we can never forget. Behind the blood-curdling screams, the planes crashing, the powerful roar of the buildings toppling, the dust that seemed like a snow storm, the feet running, the bodies falling, souls departing, spirits still remaining, the humans hiding, the children crying, the eyes closing, the phones ringing, the lap-tops and computers clicking, we heard the pain of love through the simple phrase, "I love you!" For thousands of victims and loved ones, their last words were "I love you", as their bodies departed the world, but their spirits still remain with us. Yet, we the people of the United States of America are able to overcome so much sorrow and sadness. Our amazing, courageous leaders have helped us to live our normal life again. Our President, the Mayor of New York, all the government officials, the doctors, the police force, the fire department, the military, and all the people who took time out of their lives to help the suffering people and the attacked states of New York, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania, are but a few of the many amazing Americans who have guided us through this crisis. Their efforts contribute to the great patriotism each one of us display. This patriotism and pride Americans have shines out of our hearts to everyone in the world. This is what makes us the extraordinary citizens we are. The freedom, justice, and liberty our country represents, is what makes our nation so different from all the others. We must all feel proud of this and help our people in any way we can. As many of us ask, "What about Bin Laden and the terrorists? What if they attack again? What will result in the end?" The answer to these questions is, "No one knows." However, we hope the people who stand behind these acts of crime will be brought to justice. We can't predict and control the future, we can't alter the past, but we can direct the present. What we do now will help us later. We will live united, spreading the love and destroying the hate. God Bless America! Hari Om.
